My Mighty Guy
I thought I'd shake up the sarcasm on my blog a bit and try to highlight some of my children's more endearing qualities... you know instead of their "Make you crazy, How long is this story, Oh yippie someone is crying again, Why are you always hungry, You are playing to rough with him, Did you seriously leave your homework folder at school again, You have to move the automatic pencil sharpener where Silas can't reach it, and Honey, we might have to cancel our date because Canaan apparently stabbed Silas in the eye with a pencil and blood is coming out his tear duct" qualities. Sigh.
Come to think of it, this could be a tougher writing series than I thought. :) That's why I've decided to start with an easy one and chose Titus to brag on first.
Titus Reid Jones has a heart of pure gold. He's the kind of kid who would pick out a pink diamond necklace from the kindergarten treasure box to give to his momma. (Even though admittedly his momma was a little concerned when she saw him hop of the bus wearing his new accessory and at that point wasn't aware it was a gift.) He's the kind of kid who reviewed his 3yo brothers artwork from pre-school today and genuinely said "I'm only on the first page and already this is so good." Titus is the kind of kid who would (and does) give away his last bite of cookie if a brother asks for it. I still remember the bizarre time a gypsy lady stopped us in the mall and creepily ooed and ahhed over newborn Titus and said, "Keep an eye on this one. Mark my word, he is going to be special."
And she was right.
His nickname is Mighty or Mighty Guy, which kinda evolved from the sing song "Titus-Mitus" when he was fresh from the womb. And also we may have called him hepatitis a few times as well. We didn't initially plan to go the biblical route with all our boys names. In fact, Levi's name first struck us while we were watching an episode of fear factor and a contestant was named Levi. And then we kinda rolled with it from there. I love Titus' name though. Even though I'm pretty sure I don't do the apostrophe right when I'm writing his name as a possessive. But still, I just love his name. It's hard to believe that once upon a time my in-laws offered us $1,000 to change it. I'm pretty sure they were joking- well you know that kind of truth in sarcasm joking:) But he could never be anything else but Titus.
Cory and I regularly start conversations to each other by saying "you missed a good Titus quote this morning." Because not only does he say the sweetest things, but he also has this way of talking that sounds like he is on a Mr. Rogers episode or some kind of sugary show that educates young children. Seriously. Like when I say, "Hey Mighty, can you help me with something?" Ninety-nine percent of the time he doesn't just respond "Yes" he will actually say the words, "Sure, Momma I will help you with whatever you want." And mind you he was in the middle of an intense Wii Super Smash Brothers battle when I interrupted him.
Here's a few other quotes from Titus this week:
-Daddy I know you love to read and so I got you this book about dolphins from the library. I just got it because I thought you might like it.
-Momma, I know this is gonna taste delicious because you are the best cooker in the whole wide world.
-I'm just gonna play my whistle for the birds to call to them and so that I can help them calm down because some of them might be scared from all the rain and stuff...
And I will never forget when his younger and "darker" brothers came to live with us. They had been with us at least two weeks and we were sitting down for dinner. Titus was 5 and Judah was 3 and they were holding hands for the prayer when Titus looked down and said, "Hey your skin is a different color than mine. Well not this part, that's kinda the same (pointing to their palms)."
All I can say is that if it weren't for our other 5 hoodlums Cory and I might start believing we've got this parenting gig in the bag. I can't believe I got picked to be this boy's Momma. He was totally worth pushing out all 9 pounds 8 ounces. They don't come any better.
