TiVo?

Alright I've got a question out there for all you technologically advanced people. How good is this TiVo thing and how much does it cost? Cory and I were thinking about getting it so we can record shows we like that we don't want Levi seeing and then watch them together after he's asleep. Cory is especially anxious to get TiVo before the season premiere of Lost comes on in a week or two. And I want it so that I can record Dr. Phil to watch at night while I work out. (*Note: this would be an ideal situation, but by far not reality I'm sure!!)

I saw something on-line that you can get it for like $15 a month and the little box is free. Does this sound right? And do you have to get separate service for each TV in your house?

If any of you brilliant friends of mine know the answers please inform me!

You probably don't know me, but I've heard Tivo can really enhance your sex life. I really recommend getting it.

I just recently got TiVo and it's awesome. I bought my box from tivo.com. It was $30. I signed up for the three-year plan, so I pay $18/month with taxes. I don't see that pricing plan. I think you can get refurbished TiVos for free. Get the Series 2 one so you can record two shows or record one show and watch something different. If you have a home network, you can transfer shows to your computer and burn them to a DVD. I haven't burned any shows yet, but I have transfered them to my laptop. It's awesome. I only have one TV, so I can't answer the question about multiple TVs, but I know you can do something. TiVo.com has lots of info on it.

You should look into DVR. It's what Jeff and I had. I don't know much about TiVo but you can pause tv while your watching it to answer the phone or do a load on lanudry (then come back later and fast forward through the comerials) and record shows to watch later on DVR (like you were talking about) All the equiptment is free and it's only $5 a month (dad is getting it on his new tv set up too) Call your cable company and ask about it, I think you can get it with dish network too. As far as I know it only works for the tv it is connected to.

Cable company DVDs are usually cheaper than TiVo, but I don't think you can transfer shows to a computer or schedule programming online. If I forgot the new season of Gilmore Girls starts tonight, and I won't be home until 10 p.m. I could go online and set up a season pass to record the entire series. And when I got home at 10 p.m. the show would be recorded. I don't know if you can do that with cable company DVRs. Big plus.

I don't have many weight loss tips for you. My body drops weight slowly and I get discouraged. Don't buy things you shouldn't eat and exercise! Much harder than it sounds. I've been babysitting or going to work events at night since the Biggest Loser challenge started, so I haven't been as consistent as I would like.

we had DVR when we had dish network, and I LOVED it!! But not to dash Cory's dreams.... but it did nothing for our sex life... except maybe made it worse bc we watched too much tv at night and we went to bed way too late!

If you pay me $18 a month I'll give you Dr. Phil-style advice while you exercise. I have a vision of you on the eliptical machine listening to me on the phone, while I sit on the couch eating Pepperidge Farm cookies and repeat deep insights like, "Only YOU can make you happy, Christina. Are you waiting for Cory to make you happy because I can tell you right now, that is NOT going to happen." This could seriously revolutionize your life. Pay up.

Well, Brad has Tivo and we have DVR at the office, so I've seen a little of both worlds. I don't know much about the pricing, but I have to say that I'm partial to the "bloop, bloop!" noise that Tivo makes. I recommend it just for that. If you go with Elisa's advice, check and see if she can make that same noise while she gives you her Dr.Phil answers. (But with a Sean Connery accent, of course. Ha!)

Yeah- I'm April's back-up harrasser if you don't get some bday pics up soon!

I must say I was very opposed to TiVo when Ricky first launched the idea. But, he saved his Christmas money and bought it- I think we payed a lump amount to get the box and lifetime service, but I don't think you can do that anymore. Now, I love it. I get to watch things I like when i want to watch them...commercial free. YEAH! I'm so addicted that now I try to fast-forward/rewind the radio, too (doesn't work, by the way). I don't know how the math works, though, financially, when you are having to pay something every month. That might change my cost-benefit analysis.

That's my two-cents worth. Now get to picture posting, missy.
